12 Ways to Saturate Yourself in God’s Truth

12ways

On Monday, I wrote about how the concept of saturating yourself in God’s truth got stuck in my head after reading chapter 1 of Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst. At the end of the post I asked, “How do you saturate yourself in God’s truth?”

Well I have spent all week pondering that question, and I came up with 12 ways that you can saturate yourself in God’s truth.

1) Read the Bible

Okay, I know this one seems obvious, but when I am talking about reading the Bible, I am not talking about studying it or reading a few verses in the morning. I am talking about sitting down and reading the Bible just for the sheer enjoyment of reading it. Pick a story or a book and just sit down and read. I recommend the Message for doing this because it is an easy to read version as it is written like a novel.

2) Study the Bible

Spend time everyday digging a little deeper. Study the people and the culture. Many times we read the Bible and have a hard time understanding it, but it was written at a different point in history and the culture was different. Dig deeper. Find out what the times were like. Find out what God wants to teach you.

3) Carry it with you!

Today there are so many different ways that you can take your Bible with you. There are slimline versions of the Bible that fit nicely in a purse or bag. There are apps for your phone if you own a smartphone. There are Nooks and Kindles and other e-readers that you can download the Bible on. You can print out verses on index cards and using a jump ring bind them and carry them in your Bible. Get creative and carry it with you.

4) Write it on the walls.

Some of you are probably saying, “What! Are you crazy? Write it on the WALLS!” I don’t mean literally. Well, not exactly. I mean, surround yourself with God’s truth in your home. Use it to decorate with. Place pictures on the wall that inspire you and remind you of His truth. Post verses in areas where you need inspiration or reminders of His truth.

5) Listen To It

I found that listening to Christian music whether gospel, contemporary or scripture songs is a fun and relaxing way to saturate yourself in God’s truth, and it is so easy to do. You can stream music on the Internet, download music, and a radio.

6) Pray Constantly

Having a devoted prayer time is great, and it is needed. But we are admonished to “constant in prayer” (Romans 12:12) and to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We need to be constantly talking with the Lord. We also have to remember that prayer is a two-way conversation and we need to be prepared to listen and obey as well.

7) Obey Him!

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments!” (John 14:15) We can’t saturate ourselves in His truth if we refuse to obey Him when He speaks.

8) Live God’s Truth

God has a plan and a purpose for your life. Live it! Be grateful! Love others!

9) Share God’s Truth

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”—Matthew 28:19-20

10) Memorize God’s Truth

Memorizing God’s truth takes work but it is an important part of saturating yourself in God’s truth. It allows you to dwell on and think about verses, what they mean, how they apply to your life. Memorizing also allows you to take His truth with you anywhere you go.

11) Get Creative!

God made all of us creative in different ways. Some people are artistic. Some are bakers and chefs, Some are musicians and other people are good at building things. Some people are writers. Using your creativity to glorify God is just another way to saturate yourself in His truth.

12) Be consistent

This last way is the key to being saturated in His truth constantly. If we are inconsistent in reading His word, in studying, etc., we dry up or saturate ourselves in the things of the world.

  1. New follower from the hop!!! Love this post. We need to walk in his truth…. Every second so we dont get side swiped and off track 🙂 looking forward to reading more.

    1. Thanks, Jenn! It is so easy to get distracted by the things of this world, but He is teaching me that in order to truly be transformed and renewed I have to be saturated in His truth.

  2. Hi ! I saw your post on R& R on Wednesdays and knew I had to read it and I am glad I did. Yes, we live in a world where it is so easy to neglect the Word of God and these are definitely powerful ways to stay in tune with the Word. I especially love listening to my head pastor preach and so I have messages he has preached during different services, conventions and meetings on my iPod and every opportunity I get I listen to the wisdom he has to share. I have found that this is to be an especially powerful way to really soak in the Word of God as well gain understanding and insight from people more mature in their walk with the Lord than myself. I have done this for almost 4 years now and I can say that I have matured a lot since then (by the grace of God!)

    Thanks for sharing !

    1. You’re welcome, Gertrude! Being saturated in His truth is something that He has been teaching me for the past year.

  3. Hi Misty! I love decorating the walls with scripture, too! (I liked all your ways, but that one is one of my favorites. My friend even makes placemats with scriptures, and I instagram them!) Thank you so much for linking up on my Wednesday link up. I hope you do every time. If you send me your email to: JuanaMikels(at)gmail(dot)com, I will send you a reminder if you are not already on there.

    1. Hi, Juana! Thank you for visiting! I love that idea of making placemats with Scripture. That is so creative. I read on another blog about making a Scripture cake. I thought that sounded like a fun way too.
