Gratitude is the Key

Read: Luke 17:11-19

Key Verses: Then Jesus answered, “Were not 10 cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

In these verses, we are told the story of 10 men. They are lepers, outcasts. They come to Jesus wanting to be healed. He tells them to go see the priests, but one on the way only one of them notices that he has been healed. When he notices that he has been healed, he returns to Christ and praises God and gives thanks to Jesus.

Am I like the Samaritan? Am I grateful for the gifts that the Lord has given me? The wounds that He has healed? Do I sing His praises? Do I let everyone see what He has done for me?

More often than not, I am like the 9. Either I don’t recognize the gift or take the gift for granted. I see it as something that I deserve or I have earned. I continue merrily on my way. Now I have to give the 9 credit, they were acting in obedience in the belief that they would be healed.

But I should be like the one, like the Samaritan, who when he saw that he was healed, turned back and praised God and gave thanks to Jesus. His heart was full of gratitude. His gratitude unlocked his faith, and his faith healed him.

Gratitude unlocked his faith,

Obedience grew his faith,

And Christ’s love for him made his faith work.
