When Things Don’t Go as Planned

I’m suffering from some disappointment today. I was planning on volunteering at the Women of Faith Conference in Kansas City this weekend, but due to some changes in circumstances, I am not going to be able to be there. I will admit that part of me is relieved, but at the same time I am disappointed. I made these plans months ago, and today I had to cancel them.

And while I know that it is just a little hurt, it stills hurts, and it leads me to the question:

What do you do when things don’t go as planned?

What happens when something you wanted doesn’t happen?

What do you do when you want one thing and God says “no” or “wait” and that He has something else for you at this time?

What do you do when the dreams that you had for your life are not happening in your life?

You cling to Jesus.

Whether it is a little hurt or a big dream, give it to God.

Trust Him.

He will take care of it.

I think the words of the hymn¬†“Take My Hand, Precious Lord”¬† say it best.

Precious Lord, take my hand,

Lead me on, help me stand.

I am tired.

I am weak.

I am worn.

Through the storm,

Through the night,

Lead me on to the light.

Take my hand, Precious Lord,

Lead me home.

  1. It’s easy in these situations to want to stamp our feet and complain at God. But if we really trust Him we can swallow our disappointment and know that God wants the best for us.
