In the 38 years that I have been on this earth, I have done a lot of laundry. When I was a teen, it was my job to do the laundry for everybody. From my dad’s tighty whities to my mom’s lingerie to my sister’s school clothes, it was my job to make sure that they were clean.
Today I don’t have as much laundry to do as many people. I’m single, and I don’t have any children, but I have to do my laundry and my grandmother’s laundry because my job these days is assisting my grandmother.
I never minded doing the laundry for my family, and most of the time I don’t mind doing my grandmother’s laundry.
But lately I have noticed a change. Lately I have decided that I am grateful to have any laundry to do at all and the ease with which this can be accomplished.
With the disasters that have hit lately, people losing their homes and their clothes. Some ending up with only the shirts on their back.
When I read stories of people who have to walk miles to the nearest water supply to wash their clothes.
When I see photos of children who have only the clothes on their backs.
I have to be grateful…grateful that I have laundry to do…grateful that I have clothes to be cleaned…grateful that all I have to do is walk to the basement.
So yeah, I’m grateful for laundry.
