Living Art

Have you ever thought of yourself as an artist? Or your life as art?

I hadn’t. I would see other people’s lives and see the art in their life, but I never saw the art in my own life.

Well, thanks to the (in)courage Bloom book club and their sponsored book program, I am beginning to see my life as art.

This is my first time to join an online book club and I have to say that I am enjoying it. The book we are reading is titled A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live by Emily P Freeman. And today I just want to share some of my favorite quotes from the first 2 chapters with you.

“The beauty she shared was, quite simply, herself. And in sharing herself, she showed me a glimpse of the glory of God.”

“{Artists} pull back the covering on our inner life, allowing us to see things beneath the surface, things that, without their compassion, creativity, and generosity, we may have missed….Art coming from honest hands shows us beauty, stirs up longing, and touches us deeply.”

“Cashiers and cellists are capable of making art because they both have the power to influence, to be fully awake to their Maker, and fully aware of his making of them.”

“You were born to make art.”

“…you were also made to live art.”

“God is an artist.”

“Art means believing that the God who created the world with words alone creates with words still, through us–whether it be on a stage to thousands or in a corner with one.”

“Art happens when you dare to be who you really are.”

“When we live free, we are able to give freedom. When we lived loved, we are able to give love. When we are secure, we are able to offer security. God reveals himself through every artist, and the artist is you….The question isn’t who is the artist? The question becomes who are you?

“The first thing we know about God is he made art. What is the first thing we know about people? We were made in the image of God.”

“We are walking poetry, the kind that moves, the kind who has hands and feet, the kind with mind and will and emotion. We are what happens when God expresses himself.”

“We are created in Christ Jesus, on purpose, with purpose.”

“You are a poem written inside the person of Jesus Christ. You exist to carry out his inner desire. This is your good work.”

Emily has a powerful message in this book. A message that will challenge you to look at your life and see art.

YOU are living art.
