The Blessings of Family

The irony of me writing about the blessings of the family right now is that lately I haven’t felt very grateful for my family. I have been annoyed, irritated, frustrated, and felt like I was going crazy at times, but gratitude hasn’t made the list of what I have felt when it comes to my family.

How then can I make a list of the blessings of family when I don’t feel grateful for my family, when I actually feel irritated with my family?

Well, to be honest, I think that I need to write this list. I think I need the reminder of how precious and blessed I am in my family.

It doesn’t matter how irritating our families are. They are our families for better or worse so need to learn to be grateful for them.

Our families bless us in so many different ways.

Our families are our first teachers.

Our families are our first friends and sometimes our first enemies.

Our families are our past, our present and our future.

Our families are where we learn who we are, who we want to become and who we don’t want to be.

Our families are our loudest cheerleaders and at other times are biggest critics.

Our families are our roots, but they are also were we get our wings.

Our families are the ones we cry with, the ones we celebrate with, the ones we fight with. They are the ones we do life with.

Our families are where we first learn about love and how to treat others.

Our families are a gift from God.

  1. Family is truly a gift from God. I have my children but am an only child and both of my parents have passed. I haven’t seen my dad’s side of the family for many years but through blogging I have again begun communicating with them. They live across country in Arizona but next year I plan to go visit them and have a great reunion.

You are correct in the blessings our families give us. Great post

    1. Thank you, Kathy!
