A Step of Faith

Read:Genesis 12:1-7

Key Verse:Genesis 12:4

I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to be Abram. To have a faith like his. One that walks in unquestioning obedience to The Lord.

Here he is at 75 years of age, still living in his father’s house, and The Lord tells him to leave his father’s house and his country and to go to a new land.

And he does it.

The Bible doesn’t say that he questioned it or argued with The Lord. It says that Abram took his wife, his nephew’s family, and all their servants and left his father’s house.

Abram didn’t know where his destination was. He didn’t know where he was going to live or what he would find once he got there, but he packed up his things and went.

I wonder what it would be like to have that type of faith.

My faith is more like Jonah’s faith. I question and argue with God before obeying.

But here Abram didn’t question. Abram didn’t argue. Abram took a step of faith and obeyed.

And in his obedience, he was blessed. In his obedience the world was blessed for it was out of his offspring that Christ came to us. And Christ is the hope of the world.

  1. I tend to be more like Jonah, too–or at least like Ananias who asked, “Are you really sure you want me to do that?!” Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

    1. Janet,
Thank you for coming by and reading! It is so much easier to question than to walk in obedience at times.

  2. I have had Abraham times in my life and like you say have perhaps been more like Jonah than having the simple trusting faith of Abraham. There is much to learn here.
