Unless I am reading a book or going to sleep, one of the hardest things for me to do is to be still, and even when I am still, my mind is usually not.
But Psalms 46:10 tells us to be still. “Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
This is an invitation to us, an invitation to stop and know Him
It is an invitation to rest and honor Him.
It is an invitation to be still.
We rush and rush, always in a hurry, always on the go.
We are looking to be more productive.
We are looking to add more hours to the day.
And God says to us, “Stop. Be still and know Me. Know that I am God. Know that I am your refuge. Know that your strength comes from me. Know that you don’t have to fear. “
This week I have been participating in a 10-day challenge in Christian meditation. It is a challenge to be still and to know God, a challenge to stop and dwell on who He is, a challenge to rest in Him.
This challenge has been a challenge for me. To stop and sit or lie quietly and just rest and relax in Him does not come naturally for me.
But in doing it I am learning more about Him. I am learning more about who He is and I am starting to let go of some fears and doubts.
In quieting my body and my mind, I am learning how to better hear His voice.
So being still is another tool that I have added to my toolbox for living a life saturated in Jesus.
