God Comforts Us When We are Weak

All of us go through times of strength and times of weakness. We go through those rough times when we struggle with feeling depressed or overwhelmed and times where we are ready to call it quits and walk away from everything and times when even our physical strength seems to have disappeared.

So who or what do we turn to when we feel like we can’t take another step or make another decision?

Who or what do we turn to when we feel weak?

Do we turn to God or do we turn to other things?

When we turn to things other than the Lord, we might find strength for a short time, but it doesn’t last. Many times when I have turned to things other than the Lord, I have found that I actually feel weaker than I did before.

But the Lord!

The Lord promises that when we are tired and weak if we turn to Him then He will comfort us and give us strength, and it is strength that doesn’t just last for the moment or the day. It is strength that lasts.

So how does he comfort us when we are weak?

1)     By reminding us that He is our strength

I love the Psalms. When I am feeling weak, I will open the Psalms and start reading. Many of the Psalms remind us that our strength comes from God.

Isaiah 40:28-31 are also good verses to read when you are feeling weak.

It started when I was younger, but Philippians 4:13 has become a mantra for me when I am feeling weak and like I can’t do something. I will quote it over and over.

I also find that praise music aids me in feeling stronger because it helps me take my eyes off of myself and place them back on the Lord. One of my favorites right now is “You are My All-in-All.”

2)   By reminding us that we are not alone

The Lord has promised to never leave us or forsake us. His Spirit is with us always. His love for us endures forever. He shows us this in His Word and by gifting us with friends.

He sends friends our way when we are in need of comfort, and then there are His stories! Have you ever read a story whether in a book or on a blog and thought “That’s me!” or “That’s my story!”?  And you no longer feel alone because suddenly someone somewhere understands what you are going through. That’s from the Lord!

All comfort comes from the Lord.
