As I was reading through posts on my personal Facebook page Monday night, I came across a post that shared this quote from Mother Teresa:
People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
It served as a good reminder that when we stand before Christ, we will have to give an accounting of our actions, not the actions of others.
You see while I was hurt this weekend, I don’t have to give an accounting for what hurt me, but I will have to give an accounting for how I handled it.
Have I treated others with kindness?
Have I forgiven those who have hurt me?
Have I been honest in my dealings with others?
Have I done good?
Have I given the best I have?
My works won’t get me to heaven, but my works, my attitudes, and my life are meant to be reflections of God’s love for me. Do I love others the way that Jesus loved and gave His life for me?
Do I live out His love?
Do I live out His Word?
Do I live out His Truth?
Do I reach out to others, not just for my own good, but for His Good?
It is between me and God how I live out my life, not between me and others.
Even when I am not being served, I need to serve anyway.
Even when I have been hurt, I need to reach out anyway.
Even when I am not loved, I need love anyway.
Even when I have been cheated, I need to be honest anyway.
We are to treat others the way that we want to be treated, not the way we have been treated or are being treated.
Remember: No more excuses. We are starting a love revolution.
Be kind anyway.
Be honest anyway.
Be happy anyway.
Do good anyway.
Give your best anyway.
Do it anyway because in the end it is not between you and them.
It is between you and God anyway.
I created a free printable with the quote. Click on the photo to print or save.
