Awakening

I have been taking part in an online Facebook group which is going through the book Making Manifest by Dave Harrity. I really haven’t been a very active participant although I have enjoyed reading what other people are sharing.

If you haven’t heard of the book Making Manifest, it is a devotional meant to help awaken the poet, the writer, the creator that is within us. Each day Dave shares a short devotional which is usually followed by a writing exercise. Sometimes the writing exercise comes before the devotional.

Today I want to share with you some of what I have written as I have been going through this devotional. It is a “poem” that I am calling “Awakening.”

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Awake yet not
Lost in her own little world

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Invisible
Unknown

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Lifting up
My head

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Slowly
Looking around

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Awakening
To the world around

I am
The woman
Sitting quietly
In the corner
Just beginning
To see

I am
The woman
No longer
Sitting quietly
In the corner

I am
The woman
Standing
For the world
To see

I am
The woman
Reaching out
Creating community

I am
The woman
Showing love
Each day
In her own way

  1. OH my goodness, Misty! I didn’t know you were doing Making Manifest. You should definitely chime in on the Facebook group. I absolutely love your Awakening poem. I’ve been too chicken to share mine. We are going to have so much to talk about when we get together which I have not forgotten about, by the way. I’ve had a sick kiddo, but I’ll email you right now and we can get something on the calendar.

    1. Tarissa,

Nobody knew I was doing Making Manifest until today except for the person who approved me to join the group. I haven’t even told my family I’ve been doing it. Chiming in isn’t easy for me. I’m still struggling to get past my perfectionism and that there are no right or wrong answers.

      1. I certainly understand that fear. I’m happy to comment on other people’s poems, but don’t ask me to share mine. I’ve been procrastinating writing our week two poem all morning, because I struggle with comparing myself to what others have written and I find it so challenging to accurately capture everything God has laid on my heart. But the experience has been tremendous – a definite awakening. I’m so glad you decided to open up and share today. Who knows what might come of it or whose life it might touch. 🙂

  2. This is my first time visiting {and my first time to linkup with Thought Provoking Thursday}, but when I say your title and blog name together Awakening/The Barn Princess….I just knew I waned to meet you! By the way, I live on a farm too and our barns are more like shacks. 🙂 Also, I’m a lover of poems, so this stop just got better!

    1. Hi, Tammy! Thanks for stopping by and visiting from Thought Provoking Thursday. Lyli is great and there are always some great blog posts to read. I’m glad you enjoyed my poem.
