How to Fight Fears & Insecurities

For the last few weeks, I have been fighting with myself. I have been fighting fear, doubts, depression, and hormones. Fear and the insecurities that it causes are issues that I have struggled with for most of my life, and something I have written about several times on the blog.

Fear is always there. It’s always whispering to me and feeding my doubts and insecurities.

“You’re not good enough.”

“You can’t do anything right.”

“Who do you think you are?”

“Why should people listen to you?”

“What about your dreams? They don’t matter.”

“You don’t matter.”

“You are a failure.”

And as I have been spending time dreaming and exploring my God-sized dreams and thinking about the blog and writing, my fears and insecurities have come screaming back.

My fears have been holding me back from a lot in my life, and lately they have been holding me back from building this blog and writing the way I want to. I want to do guest posts and write an ebook, but I have been too afraid to even attempt to do either of those.

But fear…fear is wrong and in many cases fear can be a sin. When fear keeps you from being obedient to the Lord, fear becomes a sin.

Fear is the opposite of faith.

When fear says, “I can’t,” faith says, “I can.”

When fear says, “You’re not good enough,” faith says, “You are more than enough.”

When fear says, “Your dreams don’t matter,” faith says, “You matter.”

When fear says, “Why should people listen to you?” faith says, “Your voice is important.”

Don’t listen to fear. It lies.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

Fear is a powerful feeling, but faith and love are even more powerful.  When we give our fears over to God, He can move powerfully in us and through us.

Don’t let fear rule your life. Focus on Christ. In Him you will find the strength you need to fight your fears and overcome them. Let Him be the one you lean on. Stay in His word and count your blessings.
