One of the questions that I have been asking myself is:
“What if I don’t know what my God-sized dream is?”
How do I find out what it is that I am supposed to do with my life?
And while You Are Made for a God-Sized Dream and other books are great books, they don’t always help you answer that question. They encourage you, but they kind of assume that you already know your purpose, your calling, or your God-sized dream.
So what do you do if you don’t know what your God-sized dream is?
I have to say this: Prayer is the most important thing you can do in order to find your dream. “You do not have, because you do not ask.” (James 4:2b) If you desire to have a God-sized dream, ask Him for one.
2) Spend time in the Word.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalms 37:4 ESV)
When you delight yourself in the Lord by spending time in His Word and in praise as well as walking in obedience to Him, you find yourself desiring what He wants for you, and He has a plan and a purpose for you (Jer 29:11). The more you delight in Him and the closer you walk with Him the more likely you are to discover your dream. I find that the times I lose focus on my dreams are the times I am distant from Him.
3) Take a long hard look at your strengths, skills, experiences, and what you feel passionate about.
What gives you joy? What are your strengths? What are you good at? What type of experiences have you had? What do you feel passionate about? All of these are good indicators of your dreams.
4) Pray some more
It’s the one thing that I keep coming back to lately. If you want to know what your God-sized dream is, pray. Pray fervently. Pray persistently and then stop and listen. He is more than willing to show you what dream He has for you.
Your God-sized dream isn’t about you. It’s about the God who gave it to you so if you desire to have a God-sized dream you need to be pursuing Him. He is the only One who can show you the dream that He has for you so seek Him out. Say “yes” to what He has for you in the here and now. Follow Him and He will show you the way to finding your dream.
And in the meantime, pursue Him and focus on loving well.
He does have a dream for you, and I, for one, can’t wait to find out what He has in store for you.
