Showers of Blessing

Yesterday I was singing the hymn “Showers of Blessings.” I was singing it as both a prayer and claim to the promise.

The lyrics were written by Daniel W. Whittle in 1883 and is based on Ezekiel 34:26 which says:

“And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing,
And I will send down the showers in their season;
They shall be showers of blessing.”

Lately I have been struggling with being grateful and seeing the blessings in my life, but as I was singing this song yesterday, I would close my eyes and myself dancing in an outpouring of His blessings like I was dancing in the rain. I was dancing, arms outstretched, turning around and around as His blessings poured down like a summer shower. It was a beautiful picture.

There Shall be Showers of Blessing

There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be showers refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing—
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord!
Grant to us now a refreshing;
Come, and now honor Thy Word.

There shall be showers of blessing;
O that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

There shall be showers of blessing,
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
If we let God have His way.
