“I have learned that in every circumstance that comes my way, I can choose to respond in one of 2 ways:
I can whine
I can worship!
And I can’t worship without giving thanks. It just isn’t possible. When we choose the pathway of worship and giving thanks, especially in the midst of difficult circumstances, there is a fragrance, a radiance, that issues forth out of our lives to bless the Lord and other.”

Choosing Gratitude: Your Journey to Joy
It is no secret that bad things happen to everyone. No one is excluded from this. We live in a world where no matter how “good” a person you are you are still going to have to go through some suffering at some point in your life.
The choice we face when these times come is not about whether or not we are going to have them…We don’t have a choice in that, but we do have a choice about how we respond to what we are going through.
As Christians, our choices are: Whining or Worshipping.
One of my favorite Christian songs is “Blessings” by Laura Story. It has been ever since I first heard it, and every time I hear it I sing it. It touches something inside me. It makes me stop and question the way that I have perceived the things that have happened in my life.
When I start to question my perception, I then start questioning my reaction. I start looking for the lessons that I learned and that I can still learn from what has happened. Was I a whiner or a worshipper?
Unfortunately for me (& okay the people around me), I have a tendency to be more of a whiner than a worshipper. It is really hard to look for the good and choose to praise God and worship Him in the midst of trials. It is difficult to take my eyes off of me and my pain and place them where they need to be…on Christ.
But it is a choice that we all have to make when faced with trials. Will we focus on ourselves and the pain that we feel? Or will we focus on Christ and let Him use this trial to shape us into whom He created us to be?

Think back to a time when you were going through a trial. What lessons did you learn? What other blessings came out of that trial?
