The Gratitude Challenge–Day 9

I’m a day late with this post. I’ve had a cold all week long, and my mind has been so foggy that it is hard to write. My thoughts drift, and what would normally take me a relatively short time to write is taking a whole day so please pray for my healing.

When we express appreciation, and approval, we increase the confidence of others in us and encourage them to excel.

If we want others to continue doing what they are doing, the best thing we can do is to let them know how much we appreciate it.

Living a life filled with gratitude means showing appreciation for other people and the things that they do.

But when is the last time you said “thank you” to someone? When is the last time someone told you “thank you”?

As a child I was taught the Golden Rule: treat others as you want to be treated.

I have tried to live by this rule my entire life. I’m not perfect, and it is not an easy thing to do.

People can be rude and hateful, and even when you treat them with kindness they can still treat you with disdain.¬†We live in a world that tells us that to get ahead in life then women need to be bitches. (Excuse the foul language. I don’t use it often.) The elderly are considered burdens. Children are considered more trouble than their worth.

We are not taught to be gentle or kind. These things are disregarded and mocked.

We are taught that we can have whatever we want. We just have to reach out and take it which usually means hurting someone else in the process.

We are not taught to consider others first. We are not taught to treat others with appreciation.

I see this every day in my extended family. They don’t call my grandmother. They don’t come to visit her, and she feels heartbroken and abandoned because of it. They don’t show any appreciation for the woman who gave them life.

People want to belong. They want to know they are appreciated. They want to know that they are loved and worth something.

Pick someone from the list that you made yesterday. Think of some ways to show that you appreciate them and do it.

Journal prompt:

Who is someone that you appreciate? Write down all the reasons that you appreciate them.
