Choosing the word “START” as my word for 2015 wasn’t an easy choice for me. At first I was thinking words like dream, intentional, shine, joy, or love, but they didn’t seem enough. I wanted a word that encompassed them all, but at the same time a word that could stand on its own. Then I checked out a book from the library. It was a book with a simple title. One word. (Any guesses as to what the book was?)
I started reading the book, and the more I read the more I felt that this book had been written for me.
In the last few years, I have become horrible about starting. I have let my fears get in the way.
There was a time though when I felt fearless. It was time when I felt confident in who I was and the direction that I was going. I started a business. I started dating a great guy. I had started truly living. Starting was the easy part. Persevering and staying it with it was the hard part.
Now I am 10 years down the road, but I’m not the same person that I was. I made the hard choice to close my business. I went through a tough year after the heartache of a broken engagement. I moved 4 times in a 12 month period. I have had trouble finding work and keeping it. I have gone through bankruptcy, a couple more broken relationships, and many, many losses of people that I have cared about.
And slowly fear crept back into my life.
As the fear moved in, I started putting up walls again. I lost sight of who I was, of who God created me to be.
But the Lord has been telling me that it is time to start. It is time to start being intentional, start pursuing my dreams, and start living again. It is time to stop just dreaming and time to start doing.
But where do I start? Where do you start?
We start where we are at.
We take a good long look at where we are, at who we are, and we start from there. We start in doing the simple everyday things that we are already doing, and we start setting goals and laying out the path to our dreams. Then we start walking the path to our dreams.
It is in the small steps, in the everyday decisions and choices that we make, that our dreams come true.
There is no magic formula or easy button.
There are just small steps taken day after day. One step, one goal, at a time.
If you are unsure of where you are at, I am designing a workbook to help you figure out where you are. I will post it here when I have completed it.
