Loving God through Being Thankful

How do you show God that you love Him?

What is His love language?

I have heard it said that the Bible is God’s love letter to us. It tells us how much He loves us and how He wants the best for each of us. It tells us how He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us.

But the Bible is so much more than a love letter to us. The Bible not only tells us how much that He loves us, but it also tells us how we can show our love for Him. From the beginning to the end, the Bible tells us clearly how we can show our love for Christ as well as other people

During last year’s challenge I wrote about 5 ways to love God. The ways were:

This year I want to take a deeper look into each of these ways.

Loving God through Being Thankful

One of the best ways that we can show God that we love is by being grateful for the gifts that He gives us. Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, God is the giver of all good things. In Romans 8, the apostle Paul tells us that “all things work together for good to those that love the Lord” (verse 28) so that even things that don’t first appear good are meant for our good.

We show our gratitude to the Lord through a couple of different ways.

  • By being good stewards

The first way is by being a good steward of all that He has given to you. God gives us gifts. He gives them to us as talents and abilities, relationships, emotions, and material things, and when He gives us these things, He gives them to us and expects us to take care of them and to use them to bless not only ourselves but to bless others and to give Him glory. If we are grateful for the things that He has given to us, then we are going to appreciate them and take care of them.

  • By praising Him

We also show God that we love Him and are grateful for the gifts that He gives by praising Him when we receive them. It also means praising the Lord even when times are tough and knowing that in the end He will work everything out for our good because these things are making us holy.

When we are grateful for what the Lord has given to us, then we are showing the Lord that we love Him.
