I can count on one hand the number of Valentine’s Days that I was actually dating someone so I don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day. It is a day that I normally just let pass by like any other day except when I was teaching then I would celebrate it with my kids. I don’t hate it or love it. I just don’t celebrate it.
This year though I have been wondering, “W hat if I had someone to be my Valentine?” What if I had a boyfriend this year? What would be different? How would I be different? What would I want from my boyfriend? What would I want to give to my boyfriend?
After thinking on it for a while, I came up with a short list of what I would want most from my significant other (if I had one) this Valentine’s Day. While flowers and candy are nice and would be accepted, they aren’t what I would ask for this Valentine’s Day. Here is my short list:
If I had a boyfriend this year, I would love it if he just reserved a whole day for me. No cell phones. No Internet. I would just want a day where I could have his undivided attention. It wouldn’t matter whether we were exploring the area where we live or just hanging out at home the whole day as long as we were spending the day together.
Some of the things I think it would be fun to do together:
- Horseback riding (if the weather permits)
- Hiking (if the weather permits)
- Touring Kansas City
- Having a movie day at home
- Cooking a meal together
Something Unique and Personal
If I were to receive a gift this year, I would want it to be something that shows he knows me well or something that represents the two of us. I don’t like things that are cliché. I like things that are handmade or unique, things that show that he put some thought and care into it.
Gifts that I would enjoy receiving:
- Books are always good and are never cliché.
- Something handmade.
- A puppy
- Yarn or other craft supplies
As you can see, I don’t want or need anything flashy or elaborate.
I think everybody has their own ideas about what is romantic and what is not. If you had a boyfriend, what would you want? Share below.
