ABC’s of Who We Are In Christ

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

When we accept Christ, when we believe in Him, and we repent of our sins, we become a new creation, but if you are like me in anyway, you might struggle with seeing yourself as that new creation and seeing yourself the way that God sees you. The following verses are to help you (and me) remember who we are in Christ.

Because of Christ you are:

Accepted

Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. (1 Corinthians 12:27a ESV)

Branch of the True Vine

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 ESV)

Child of God

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12 ESV)

Disciple (Luke 6:40)

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when his is fully trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40 ESV)

Eternal

“For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJV)

Forgiven

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14 ESV)

Grace-covered

“Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 5:20 ESV)

Holy

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:15 ESV)

Innocent

“But God show His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 ESV)

Justified

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1 ESV)

Known

“Oh, Lord, you have searched me and known me!” (Psalm 139:1 ESV)

Loved

“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 ESV)

Minister

“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:5-6 ESV)

New creation

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)

Overcomer (Romans 5: 3-5)

“Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:2-5)

Purposeful (Ephesians 2:10)

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)

Qualified

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” (Colossians 1:12 ESV)

Redeemed (Colossians 1:13-14)

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14 ESV)

Strong

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 ESV)

Temple

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV)

United with Him

“For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.” (Romans 6:5 ESV)

Valued

“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.” (Proverbs 31:10 ESV)

Warrior

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11 ESV)

(I wasn’t able to find a descriptive word for “x.” If you can come up with one, leave a comment with a Bible verse. It doesn’t have to be  an English word.)

Yoked

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

Zealous

“For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:11-14 ESV)
